Erich Justin Radauscher, Ph.D.

PhD Student

Erich defended his dissertation "Design, Fabrication, and Characterization of Carbon Nanotube Field Emission Devices for Advanced Applications" on April 4th, 2016. He is currently working for X-Celeprint Inc., located in Research Triangle Park, NC and Cork, Ireland.

A former graduate student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering under the Pratt School of Engineering. His current research at the Nanomaterials and Thin Films Lab focuses on the growth, characterization, and application of advance nanomaterials for emerging electronic technologies. More specifically, his work targes the development of carbon nanostructure based micro ion source designs for use in miniaturized sensor development; as well as research into novel carbon based field emitter structures for various field emission applications.

Concurrently he holds an internship at RTI International - Center for Materials & Electronic Technologies where he assists in R&D related to novel MEMS based vacuum microelectronic devices and sensors for chemical detection as well as characterization and development of other carbon nanotube (CNT) devices, circuits, and electronics. While at Duke he has  acquired skills in several additional instruments and characterization tools including but not limited to PECVD, SEM, TEM, AFM, EDS, XPS, and other microfabrication equipment.

He completed his undergraduate studies from the University of South Florida (USF) – Tampa, FL - where his research focused on growth and characterization of Silicon Carbide (SiC) as well as fabrication of SiC MEMS structures for biomedical applications/devices. Erich has also worked alongside his father as an independent electrician, owned a business designing and installing home and car audio/video, and developed skills working in auto mechanics, plumbing, carpentry, and pneumatics.

Erich: "While not at Duke I enjoy spending my free time with my beautiful wife and son and enjoying the outdoors. I love to golf, play sports and exercise, travel, read, and spend time with our families."
